Combi boilers have become a popular choice for people's new boiler. To see if this is the new boiler you need, please read on!

Why a combi boiler?

Space

A popular reason for installing a combi boiler, is due to available space. Unlike traditional boilers, your new combi boiler will not require a water tank. This leaves you with a lot more free space in your loft, or airing cupboard. This can be especially important to those living in small houses, or flats, where space can be troublesome.

You will obviously need some space for your new boiler. However, combi-boilers are generally a lot smaller than traditional systems, so a lot less space is required.

Lower energy bills

With traditional boilers, hot water is typically produced twice a day- irrespective of it being used, or not. To produce this hot water, the boiler needs to fire up. However, if the water doesn’t get used, it just cools back down. This is a waste of energy! Combi boilers, on the other hand, only produces the hot water when it is needed- so, when you turn on your shower, or tap. This provides many people with considerable energy savings, and thus, lower bills.

Efficiency

Older boilers tend to be lower efficiency. This can vary depending on the age, but it will be significantly lower than a new boiler. New boilers have 90% efficiency. So, you may want to consider installing a new boiler, if your current one is old. Long-term the increased efficiency will make the initial costs worthwhile.

Typically, a boiler’s lifetime is from 15-20 years- though it is likely to need some maintenance, before it's end. An annual service will help keep your boiler working smoothly. So if you do not want to be getting a new boiler unnecessarily, make sure you keep up-to-date with your annual boiler services! After all, any small repairs or work that need to be done, will be considerably cheaper, than investing in a new boiler!

When you only ever have fairly small water demands, at one time, combi boilers are ideal. However, if you need hot water feeds simultaneously in more than one outlet- like, for example, you want to run two baths in your household, in the evening, then a combi boiler would not be appropriate. If this is the case, your new boiler should be either a system, or regular boiler - these are more suitable to your needs.
